      FAMILY DAY!

Today is Family Day for One Week campers! We are so excited for parents to be at HoneyRock and see a glimpse of what their children have experienced this week. The schedule for one week Family Day is as follows (this will change for all other family days):

      SCHEDULE

      Friday 2:30 pm: Arrival

2:30 - 4:45 pm: Activities  All of our activities (Climbing, Archery, Riflery, Canoeing, Kayaking, Sailing, Craftshop, Mountain Biking, and Swimming) are open. We encourage you to spend some time participating in activity areas with your child.

2:30 - 5:00 pm: Beehive Open Our camp store, the Beehive, will be open for campers and their parents.  Come check out all our new HoneyRock apparel. We accept cash, checks, all major credit cards and your child’s Beehive account.

      3:00 - 4:00 pm: HoneyRock Rodeo
Head down to the Barn to watch the rodeo.  The campers and wranglers have been working hard to prepare and they are excited to show you their skills.

5:00 pm: Dinner and Ski Show  Our kitchen staff has prepared a delicious Northwoods BBQ dinner that will be served on the lawn in front of the Chrouser Center Dining Hall.  Grab a plate full of food and have a seat down by the waterfront where you can enjoy the ski show while you eat. Campers have been working hard down at the ski dock this session and are excited to get a chance to show it on the water.

6:00 - 7:15 pm: Parents’ Meeting in the Dining Hall  Don’t miss this great opportunity to hear Director Rob Ribbe share about the vision and mission of HoneyRock and the way it is impacting campers’ lives.  All parents are encouraged to attend.  Campers and siblings can hang out with other HoneyRock staff on the lawn in front of the Chrouser Center.

7:30 - 8:30 pm: Awards Ceremony at Cathedral Pines or the Tent
Parents are invited to join their child as we honor those who have earned activity area awards during the session.

8:30 pm:  Parents Depart  Take a minute to say good-night to your child before campers have their last cabin time together.

Saturday 7:00am:  Pick-Up Meet your child in the parking area behind the Chrouser Center Dining Hall.  Please be on time. If you arrive at HoneyRock after 7:15 am you will have to wait for the buses to depart before being allowed to drive down HoneyRock Road.

So you've decided to ride the bus to camp...

By: Liz Henderson, Program Team Administrative Assistant

      Whether
you are getting on the bus in Des Plaines, Wheaton, Rockford, or
Madison, your HoneyRock experience begins as soon as you come to
check-in.  Our staff is excited to meet you, get to know you and answer
any questions you may have. Here are a few things that you should know
in order to make your first day of camp a great one.

      Helpful tips for Campers:
      ·
You have the privilege of getting to know other campers before you even
arrive at HoneyRock. Come excited to meet new people and reconnect with
      your old camp friends!

      · You will be on the bus for several
hours, so you may want to bring a backpack or bag with a book, snack,
and games that you can play with other people.

      · Please don't chew gum while you are on the bus.  If you have gum, you will be asked to throw it away.

      ·
In order to make the day enjoyable for everyone, please don't bring
your MP3 player, cell phone, Gameboy or any other video games.  You
won't be allowed to have these items at camp, so don't bring them on
the bus. This also decreases the risk of losing them. We want you to
unplug your earphones, put away your video games, stop texting and get
to know the people around you.

      · Sometimes the bus ride seems long, and you might want to take a nap.  Feel free to bring along a pillow so you can relax.

      · There will be a bathroom on the bus if you need to use it.

      ·
We will stop at a McDonald's for lunch.  You don't need to bring any
money with you because HoneyRock will be paying for your lunch.

You will be allowed to purchase $5 worth of food, but may only go through the line once.

Be sure to clean up your eating area before you leave.

You will not be able to bring any food or beverages back onto the bus with you after we stop.

      ·
Since you will only be allowed to get off the bus when we stop for
lunch, we strongly encourage you to bring a water bottle with you in
case you get thirsty.  Please don't bring soda on the bus because it is
      sticky if it spills.

      · All campers who ride the bus will get the
chance to watch the HoneyRock bus video!  The bus video provides a
great introduction to camp, the staff, the activities, the counselors
      and the summer theme.

      Helpful tips for Parents:

      ·
When you get to Wheaton bus check-in, just follow the signs.  There
will be nurses there to direct you if your child has any medication
that needs to go to HoneyRock.  You can check in at the main table.

      ·
At all check-in locations, we will have extra forms available in case
there are any that you haven't yet filled out.  We will also accept any
forms that you haven't yet mailed to HoneyRock.

      · If you forgot to put money in your child's Beehive account, you will be able to add money when you are at bus check-in.

      ·
We will let you know if we are missing any forms and we will let your
child know his/her cabin number.  We will give your child little
luggage tags marked with his/her cabin number.  As soon as the buses
arrive at HoneyRock, our staff will unload the luggage from the buses
and deliver it to each cabin.

      · We will give you a counselor
card that shows pictures and gives some information about your child's
counselors.  This is for you so that you can be introduced to your
child's counselors and so that you can be reminded to pray for your
child while he/she is at HoneyRock.

      · If your child's
transportation plans change at any time, please contact HoneyRock
ASAP.  This is especially important if you decide last minute to drive
your child to camp instead of taking the bus.  Let us know so that we
aren't waiting for you at bus check-in.

      · You won't need to send any lunch money with your child.  We will take care of paying for his/her lunch.

      ·
You may want to send a snack with your child.  We will be eating an
early lunch, and he/she may get hungry later in the afternoon before we
      arrive at camp.

      · Please be on time (or early) to drop off and
pick up your children.  When parents are on time, it allows all of the
campers to arrive at their final destination on time.
