MAN CAMP! Hooah!

The res camp girls were out on their wilderness trips last night, which meant MAN CAMP. Though I've never participated (being a girl), I'm told it's an epic display of manliness through the eating of pizza, the playing of outpost, and the setting of large, glorious (camp)fires.

Outpost is a game much like capture the flag, except each person is assigned a military rank and you get points depending on the rank of the person you've captured. And they go hardcore here, dressing in camo and facepaint. See the picture below, as one of the counselors rallies his troops with the plans for battle.

After Outpost, when everything is calm again, a big fire is built on Chrouser lawn and the campers are gathered together to learn a bit about what it means to be a man, and especially a man of God.

MAN CAMP only happens once a session, but I'm sure that for many of the campers here, it's a highlight.

Hooah!

Advance Camp Strikes Again!

Yesterday the second session of Advance Camp (9th grade) arrived on camp safe and sound, if a little tired from the bus ride. And they've got a busy week ahead of them! Welcome, Advance Camp!

A note from Janie Mullins, Advance Camp leader:
"I'm pumped for this session! My counselors are excited, I'm excited, and the campers can hardly wait to see what this session will bring. We have already had a wonderful time doing activities, Solid Rock, and worshipping together. I anticipate for the excitement to grow, the cabins to bond, and the Advance Campers to begin to understand what it means to be a disciple of Christ. Please pray with and for us this session for our staff, counselors, and campers."

Here are pictures of two of the Advance Camp groups as they met yesterday afternoon.

Welcoming Pastor Haidle

This week HoneyRock was blessed to welcome Pastor Dave Haidle to speak in our weekly church service. He talked about the qualities of a shepherd, and what it is that differentiates good shepherds from bad, and how Jesus is the ultimate good shepherd. We look forward to hearing more from Pastor Haidle soon!

PirateFest!

Session two of res camp is in full swing and today the campers were greeted by a fearsome band of pirates and Service Team members. Skits went on, candy was distributed, and a general feeling of excitement was established for the rest of the twelve-day session. Yo ho, me hearties, yo ho!

And yes, that is a man dressed as a parrot.

Banquet and Awards

Don't let the fancy name fool you, Camper Banquet is an evening of laughter, fun.... and no silverware. Led by counselors dressed as pirates (and Captain Craigbeard), the campers enjoy a dinner sans forks, knives, or spoons. Below is a picture of the most recent Banquet (12 day residential camp, session 1).

Another fun event occurred near the end of Family Day. Cabinmates, counselors, and families all gathered in Cathedral Pines to celebrate the achivements of residential and Advance campers.

It's been reaaallly hot up here in the Northwoods. Down in Wheaton, they've been having trouble with big storms, but up here it's nothing but sun. Sun, and absurdly high humidity. Fortunately for the campers, facilities manager Don Kerns came to the rescue and constructed a magnificent slip n slide using yards of plastic and the hose from a fire truck. Pictures below of campers having fun cooling off in the sun!
